Hit the shops in Madrid
While Madrid undoubtedly has a wealth of historical sights and venues that must be seen, a holiday wouldn't be quite complete without a bit of shopping!
Madrid has a number of fine markets and shopping districts that are able to cater for any degree of taste and pocket, ranging from the price-conscious to the downright extravagant.
For those looking for fashionable clothing by international and Spanish designers, including jewellery, shoes and gifts, a trip to streets of Almirante and Conde de Xiquena is a must.
However, for those among you looking to obtain something more traditional, the Plaza Mayor should allow you to find that must-have item from a range of religious artefacts, fabrics, ropes, hats and even espadrilles - just please don't bring home an awful straw donkey!
Once you've satisfied your desire for a spot of retail therapy, Madrid has a number of fine bars and restaurants - there's no clear answer as to whether-or-not Madrid has its own cuisine, but who cares, the food is wonderful!Of course in the day, there are the wonderful art galleries to keep you happy. However, it is the evening when it all starts to happen in Madrid. Expect to eat late and sleep later. Don't just club: enjoy the culture and avant garde which is a large part of Madrid before finally returning to your hotel with the dawn.
